The Lionel LionChief Universal Remote 6-83071 is designed to control almost every Lionel LionChief or LionChief Plus locomotive made, along with Bluetooth-equipped Legacy and LionChief Plus 2.0 locomotives. It can operate up to three independent locomotives and includes hotspot mode, allowing the remote to serve as a gateway between the LionChief smartphone app and non-Bluetooth LionChief or LionChief Plus locomotives.

Firmware can be kept current through the Universal Remote Updater app, and the package identifies over-the-air updating with firmware version 1.3. The remote is compatible with newer Android and Apple smartphones. The updater procedure shown on the package begins with the Universal Remote turned off while Engine buttons 1, 2, and 3 are held during the power-switch sequence before the buttons are released.
