The Burlington Northern Railroad (BN) was a major U.S. Class I railroad formed in 1970 through the merger of four major lines, primarily the Great Northern and Northern Pacific. It merged with the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway in 1995 to form the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway (now BNSF Railway), which is headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, and operates a massive, key freight network.
