Wiring Lionel Accessories
Quick Summary
- Do not use track power
- Most accessories run 12-14V
- Use a dedicated accessory supply
- One common ground for all
Standard Voltage
- Buildings and lights: 12-14V
- Uncoupler tracks: 10-12V
- Switches: 14V constant
Basic Setup
- Accessory transformer
- Terminal block or distribution point
- Common return wire
Rule: One common ground shared, one hot feed per accessory.
Example 1: Uncoupler Track
Problem: Train slows or stops when activating.
Fix: Use accessory power, set 10-12V, and use momentary activation only.
Example 2: FasTrack Switch
Problem: Weak throw or failure.
Fix: Use a dedicated 14V supply and keep it separate from track power.
Example 3: Lighted Accessories
Problem: Bulbs burn out early or run dim.
Fix: Use a stable 12-14V fixed voltage source.
Bottom Line
- Separate accessory power
- Stay within voltage range
- Keep wiring consistent
